Colorado medication errors may decrease with mobile software

On Behalf of | Oct 16, 2013 | Uncategorized |

Medical errors have been problematic in Colorado and all across the country. Many patients have been subjected to an overdose of medication or even the wrong medication altogether. Mobile devices may help decrease the amount of medication errors in Colorado.

Medical facilities have started to use mobile devices to help with patient medication. While using the devices, the amount of negative drug administration has decreased. A survey was conducted by the University of Pittsburgh and 800 physicians participated. According to the survey, 88% believe that the use of mobile devices has contributed to the prevention of at least one medication error recently. The survey also found that physicians with less than 15 years of experience are nearly 70% more likely to utilize the mobile medication software than veteran physicians.

The research also indicates that the mobile device is used substantially more in a typical medical facility than in a nursing home. Mobile devices that are being used in nursing homes are being utilized approximately 98% of the time. In some instances, the device was used for a medication look up.

Even the most well-intentioned doctor or medical facility has made mistakes that ultimately left a patient injured, whether in Colorado and other areas. Tragically, some patients have died as a result of their injuries due to medication errors. Patients who have been injured as a result of a medical facility retain the right to pursue medical malpractice litigation. An injured patient may be awarded compensation if the medical facility or physician is proved to be negligent.
