Parents often feel an inordinate amount of grief in the wake of a fatal accident that claims the life of a child – especially when a driver fails to stop to render aid. An 11-year-old boy was recently struck and killed by a motorist, according to police officials. To make matters worse, the motorist reportedly left the scene of the crash. He was apprehended later on by Colorado authorities and has been criminally charged in connection with this car crash.
The accident reportedly happened when the man was racing with another individual who was riding a motorcycle. A boy was crossing the street when he was slammed into by the man, who police say admitted to driving at an excessive rate of speed. After the impact, the man kept on going and -according to his own admission – informed officers that he felt that he ran over someone, but he drove to his place of residence rather than stopping.
When he arrived home, the driver still did not call authorities. Eventually, authorities tracked his license plate, which had been discovered at the scene, to his home and placed him under arrest. He was charged with leaving the scene of a crash and homicide by vehicle. He is being held at a jail facility on a $50,000 bond.
A fatal car crash is an emotional experience under any circumstances. Surviving family members are often left grieving the sudden and untimely death of their loved one, especially when another party leaves the scene of an accident to escape being brought to justice. The family of the deceased boy may wish to initiate a legal claim for wrongful death in an attempt to obtain financial relief through the Colorado civil court system. If the driver is found to have driven in a negligent manner that caused or contributed to the fatality, monetary damages may be awarded to the family of the deceased victim.
